SUMMER A state government agency had completed two years of transition with a new Director trying to find a way to challenge the 'public service' mentality of her staff. The client was eager to ensure that the momentum achieved was sustained and built upon. It was critical to provide individual and collective leadership development to her and her 15 direct reports. Assessment and coaching identified how the leadership group was currently impacting the staff, and provided them with the missing skills to improve their people management approach. As many had been in the public service for a long time, it also included specific activities to shift their mindsets about effectiveness and their ability to hold one another accountable for being a leader. After twelve months, the leadership team is getting incredible results. They have won a State Leadership Award and are now being consulted by other directors across the state in an attempt to duplicate their positive results. Measurement showed a positive shift in individual impact and the department is now extending the program for another twelve months to progress to the next level of leadership - transforming these leaders into internal coaches.
